Chiefs QB Alex Smith Continue Toronto Blue Jays MLB Jersey s to Build on Impressive Offseason

Smith continues to play well for the Chiefs’ offense

In his three offensive drives spanning two preseason games, quarterback Alex Smith has led the Kansas City Chiefs’ first-team offense to a total of 17 points ( Toronto Blue Jays MLB Baseball Merchandise two touchdowns and a field goal).

During that time, Smith has completed 12 of 15 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown, which is good for an 8.7 yards per attempt (YPA) average.

Chiefs’ coach Andy Reid spoke ab Joe Carter Jersey out what he’s seen from Smith this offseason after the game.

“He’s playing good football,” Reid explained. “He’s in there and helping the young guys, and they love challenging each other. They throw the ball against the goal post a Josh Donaldson Jersey nd compete there—everything is a competition.

“They love it and thrive on it, but they support each other and that’s fun to watch.”

Smith finished Saturday’s 32-10 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals 8 of 9 for 83 yards and a touchdown, which is good for a quarterback rating of 142.1.

“We treated it for what it is,” Smith said after the game. “We had a chance to have a dress rehearsal against a really good team. We hadn’t game-planned for them. We just kind of wanted to come out put up some of our good stuff and see if we could execute it. I thought coach put a good, concise little plan together for us that we could go out and execute. It was nice to see it.

“Everyone was kind of feeding off each other, going out there making plays, even to the end.”

Smith’s lone touchdown toss went to tight end Demetrius Harris for a five-yard score early in the second quarter.

“It was a heck of a catch,” Smith explained of t Blue Jays Canada Day Jersey he play. “There’s a lot of communication that goes on down there. [Harris] is a guy that just continues to just plug away and gets better, better and better — run game and pass game. With (Travis) Kelce out, it was nice to see him get a lot of work that week of camp.

“He works really hard, and he’s a guy I know I have a lot of trust in when he’s in there, because he’s capable of playing at a really high level.”

Smith has been playing at a really high level all offseason, and perhaps another statistic that can illustrate that point is that Smith has been on the field for 28 offensive plays this preseason, and those plays have gained a total of 191 yards, which means the Chiefs’ offense is averaging 6.8 yards per play with  Toronto Blue Jays Smith on the field.

That number is impressive, and it continued Saturday night.

“We wanted to go out there and take another step,” Smith explained. “We wanted to use our rules. We knew this was a good defense. We just wanted to go out there and execute. No matter the situation we found ourselves in, just take it for what it is. I thought the fact the protection again was outstanding against a really good front, it really all started with that.

“The run game got started early, which was really, really nice for us, and it opened up some things down the field.”

One play Saturday night in which the field was open came on a dime deep down the field from Smith to tight end Travis Kelce, who was matched up 1-on-1 with  Kevin Pillar Jersey a linebacker. It was Kelce’s first action this preseason after missing last  Custom Blue Jays Jersey week’s game, and the play resulted in a 36-yard gain.

“We had an ideal look for the play and just needed to pick up the protection, and the guys up front did that,” Smith noted after the game. [Kelce] saw it right, made the right adjustment, and, really, my job was easy. They were bringing pressure, and we able to pick it up.”

“I think those are the kind of risks you take,” Smith added. “There are not many linebackers in the league you’re not going to make that throw against.”

Chiefs vs. Toronto Blue Jays MLB Jersey  Bengals: 10 Observations

Here’s what stood out during the Chiefs’ victory Saturday night in Cincinnati

No matter how you look at it—this was a pretty solid performance all the way around.

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Cincinnati Bengals 30-12 Saturday night in the second preseason game of the year for both teams. The Chiefs dropped their opener last week to the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 27-17.

The Chiefs can look at all three phases of this game and feel pretty good about what they accomplished, but don’t expect an Andy Reid-led team to not still find plenty of things they can correct.

It’s all a tune-up for the regular season opener against the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots in three weeks on September 7, but what we can call Saturday night is a good step in that overall process.

Here are 10 observations from Saturday night:

1. The run game got going

After last week’s performance against the 49ers, the Chiefs’ offensive line knew they had to be better—particularly in the run game. Reid said as much after the loss.

“We’ve got to do a better job,” Reid said after the Chiefs finished with 14 carries for just 31 yards against the 49ers. “We’ve got to get bodies on bodies.”

It seems they got bodies on bodies this week—finishing Saturday’s game against a stout Bengals’ defensive front with 33 carries for 228 yards, which is good for an average of 6.9 yards per carry. That’s pretty solid.

The guys up front knew they were going to focus on running the ball this week, and it was nice to see them step up to the challenge.

2. Alex Smith continues to build on impressive training camp and preseason

As the running game got going Saturday, Alex Smith simply stayed hot.

In two preseason games, Smith has gone 12 of 15 for 131 yards and a touchdown, including a performance Saturday in which he went 8 of 9 for 83 yards and a touchdown.

So far this preseason, Smith has led the Chiefs on three offensive drives—all of which ended with points (two touchdowns, one field goal).

Smith’s best toss of the day came on a seam-route down the middle to tight end Travis Kelce, who had a linebacker attempting to cover him vertically down the field. Smith placed in perfectly to Kelce for the 36-yard gain.

3. Demetrius Harris had a day

Harris may have finished with only three catches for 14 yards, but he made two of them count as he found pay dirt with a couple of them.

Harris, who had a great training camp and said he’s really concentrated on his hands, showed them off Saturday by catching a contested five-yard touchdown from Smith, and then came back a bit later with a 1-yard touchdown reception from Mahomes.

Harris even showed a little flare with the touchdown celebration.

4. Bennie Logan makes his debut and the run defense stepped up

The Bengals finished with 21 carries for 72 yards, which is an average of just 3.4 yards per carry.

While run defense is a team effort, the addition of veteran free agent Bennie Logan to the Chiefs’ defensive front this week was a welcomed-sight, and is part of the reason for the success in the trenches. Logan missed last week’s game and several practices at training camp with a sore knee.

Logan may have only been credited with two tackles, but his presence was felt beyond that and Reid noted that he liked what he saw from Logan during the game.

5. Patrick Mahomes has another standout performance

For the second week in a row, Patrick Mahomes—the rookie first-round pick out of Texas Tech—showed that he’s got the talent to play at this level.

After moving up to the No. 2 quarterback position this week, Mahomes had the opportunity to play against better competition, and he didn’t disappoint. He even got a little time with the first-team offense after Smith took care of his business.

Mahomes finished 10 of 14 for 88 yards and two touchdowns, in Joe Carter Jersey cluding a couple of plays that will be found on highlight reels for a while. He showed off his wheels a little bit—scrambling three times for 29 yards, but it was his strike to tight end Gavin Escobar on a naked bootleg rolling to his right in the red zone that people are going to remember.

Mahomes fought his way around the edge defender, who Mahomes admitted after the game played it well and stayed his ground, and threw a strike on the run in a tight window for a gain of seven yards.

It was nice.

6. Kareem Hunt gets a chance to show what he can do

Rookie third-round pick Kareem Hunt knew he was going to have an opportunity to Blue Jays Canada Day Jersey  run the ball a lot on Saturday night. They told him that was the plan, and he stepped up.

Hunt finished with eight carries for 40 yards, and Toronto Blue Jays  added three receptions for 23 yards in the passing game as well.

Reid said during a halftime interview that he liked the way Hunt came back after taking a few shots early in the game. Hunt displayed the balance, vision and strength that’s helped create this buzz around him this offseason.

It wasn’t just Hunt who stepped up in the running game either—those guys are all pushing each other.

Veteran C.J. Spiller finished with six carries for 27 yards (4.5 ypc), while Charcandrick West led the team with seven carries for 113 yards (16.1 ypc).

7. Allen Bailey displays another big-time tackle-for-loss

 Josh Donaldson Jersey

After making a huge play last week against the 49ers in the run game for a tackle-for-loss, Bailey showed the versatility he said he’s been working on and picked up a nice sack late in the first quarter.

The play resulted in a loss of 13 yards, and the guy nicknamed “the Hulk” continues to show no signs of rust after missing most of last season with a pectoral injury.

8. Eric Murra Kevin Pillar Jersey y gets the interception

Toronto Blue Jays MLB Baseball Merchandise

It was the only turnover for either team on the day, but second-year safety Eric Murray, who has drawn the praise all offseason of coach Al Harris, was able to pick off Bengals’ backup quarterback A.J. McCarron deep in Chiefs’ territory.

There was nice coverage on the play from cornerback DeVante Bausby, and the ball was tipped into the air and into the hands of Murray, who took it back 12 yards the other way.

On the very next offensive play for the Chiefs, quarterback Tyler Bray threw a missile across the middle to Seantavius Jones for an 18-yard score.

9. Rookies Ukeme Eligwe and Tanoh Kpassagnon flash their skills

In addition to Mahomes and Hunt, there were a couple of other rookies who got into the mix Saturday night as well.

Both defensive end/outside linebacker Tanoh Kpassagnon and linebacker Ukeme Eligwe showed flashes of the ability that has had coaches and sc Custom Blue Jays Jersey outs raving about each of them this offseason.

Kpassagnon was all over the field and finished with two tackles, while Eligwe lit up the stat sheet with four tackles, a sack, two tackles for loss and a quarterback hit.

10. Anthony Sherman is the target on key fourth-down conversion

It may be lost in the shuffle, but one of the key plays early in the game was a fourth-and-short play-call in the red zone that had the ball thrown to fullback Anthony Sherman, who showed some nice hands to catch it on the outside and get up field for the first down.

Two plays later, Smith hit Harris for the five-yard touchdown.

Derrick Johnson: “It’s always great to be h customized women’s NFL jersey ealthy and back playing at Arrowhead”

Johnson and several of his teammates spoke with the media Friday after the game

How would you sum up this game for your offense, especially th Custom Womens Steelers Jersey e first team? “We just have to keep making our plays. We moved the ball well, in the first quarter, with the ones. Got to get the running game started. Got to get in sync with the O-line now. I think we did pretty good today, but there is still work to be done. A lot of work to be done.”

What were you expecting to get out of today’s game? “Getting back to the field, beating up on a different opponent instead of ourselves all day at camp. So that was pretty good.”

What can you do as a team to get rid of some of the mistakes you made? “We just have to stick to what we do and stay fundamentally sound. Trust our technique. The coaches have been doing a great job of teaching us and putting us in the right position for us to make plays. So you just have to trust it and then stay focused.”

What did you guys think of how you played defensively? “I thought we made some good plays, some good stops early on in the first two series.”

Where do you go from here as a team? “ custom vikings jersey We will go back, watch the film, make the corrections and come out and try and fix them.”

Can you do those things and get those things done this week at training camp? “That’s the purpose, to review the film, get back to practice, fix the mistakes.”

Physically, how did you feel? “I felt good. Shoulder felt good, body felt good.”

How do you breakdown your performance individually? “Run was good. Pass rush, I’m still tweaking. But yeah, I am getting my run game back up to par and then go from there.”

When were you back at 100 percent? “I got cleared at the six month mark. I got back to 100 percent probably around June, something like that.”

The tackle for a loss, can you walk us through that play? “I saw the formation leaning more to the left, so I just kind of widen out and prepare for that and, bam. I was able to shed and come back in.”

What did you see on that interception? “It was my check down. I was stepping up into the pocket and just threw it a little too far outside.”

How exciting was it to see Coach dial up a long play that went for a touchdown but was called back for pass interference? “He beat the guy off the ball. They were kind of fighting back and forth and he made a great catch.”

How did it feel to get some live game action?  “It felt great.  It’s been a while since I’ve been out there.  It’s always great to be healthy and back playing at Arrowhead.  The more I am out at practice, the more I am out at these preseason games, even though I am an older guy coming off an injury, it is vital for me.”

Was this time any different from the first time you came back from an Achilles tear?  “It was a little different.  I am still a little rusty physically.  Mentally, I still have it all.  Like I said, I am blessed to come back healthy.  Tonight, I didn’t really make a lot of plays but I was moving and did my job really well.  That’s what you look for.”

What did you see from the first team defense?  “We played a little, bend but don’t break.  We played great red zone defense.  When you don’t let them score touchdowns, that’s what you want.  At the same time, it’s the NFL, things happen.  It’s the first preseason game so always go into it that’s, it’s not always as bad as it looks and it’s not as good as it looks.  Just keep trying to get better.”

Comments on his first NFL game:  “It was very exciting.  It was very fast, I have to say that.  It was a great experience.”

Comments on the blocked punt, fumble recovery:  “Honestly, I was just trying to make a play and get some points on the board.  I was trying to scoop and score it, but honestly,  Custom Womens Eagles Jersey I recovered it and that was the most important thing.”

What did this game do for your confidence going forward?  “It helps my confidence.  I got the first game out of the way.  I can only go up from here.  Honestly, just keep getting better.”

How did you feel about the first drive?  “I think the challenge is knowing that you have limited reps but don’t let that be the focus.  Just try to go out and take advantage of the reps you do have.  Don’t think about when you are coming out or anything like that.  Starting out the game we wanted to set the tone, go out and have success.  The nice thing was we got some good situational football in.  Some third down and some red zone.  We were able to cap it off.”

Would you have liked to have played more than one series?  “It is a long preseason.  I feel like we got good work in tonight.  It is a fine line.  That is coach’s decision.  We’ve got to keep going until you are told you are done.  I certainly felt good with it.  We’ve got three more left.  I think we can get plenty of work in.”

Did you game plan the first pass play to Tyreek?  “I just got a good look at it.  They came up and challenged both of those guys.  I felt good about it, taking a shot downfield.  This was not a game plan.  We were just running base stuff and trying to execute our fundamentals.”

How much were y Custom Womens Patriots Jersey ou able to watch the other three quarterbacks and see what they did?  “I’m right there.  I’m watching intently.  We are a group.  We are a team. I’m certainly watching those guys.  For sure, right?  The situations they get, if there is anything I can offer, I’ll try to help out anyway I can.”

Comments on the game:  “We wanted to win the game.  That would have been the biggest thing.  I went in and tried to move the chains. It could have been a little bit better.  We had one touchdown.  Hopefully we can build upon that next week.”

How much input did you have on the plays called when you were playing?  “Yeah, definitely, it was the game plan we went over the last few days.  We tried to see what we can do in that short amount of time, what they did.  I feel like Coach Reid and Coach Nagy had a great game plan.  I put in my input as well.  I went out there and just tried to make things happen.”

Did you call that first play?  “No, Coach Reid asked me if I liked what I had seen from the other quarterbacks.  They both completed theirs so I thought it was a good idea.  We went out there and completed it, then just tried to build upon that every time.”

What did you think of the speed of the game?  “Adrenaline was pumping excitement.  You are living out a dream.  You are doing something you were imagining in back yards since you were a little kid.  You definitely were excited.  There were a lot of fast players, fast guys out there.  I feel like with the defense I’ve been going against, our defense, we’ve had those guys out there too.”

Was Marcus Kemp the third or fourth receiver on your touchdown throw?  “He was the third read.  I rolled out so they had covered up the first two. I tried to make something happen.  He adjusted really well.  I threw it back to him and he went up and got it.”

Any throws tonight that you would want bac custom womens vikings jersey k?  “I don’t know if I could specifically think of one just right now.  I wish we could have completed more so we could get some more first downs.  I feel like we got behind the chains. You want to keep moving forward and I feel like we could have done a little bit better of that.”

What We customized women’s NFL jersey  Learned from Andy Reid Following Friday’s Game

Andy Reid spoke to the media Friday night

OPENING STATEMENT: “As far as the injuries go not really a lot to mention. [Chris] Conley has a knee contusion, we’ll just see how he does and [Phillip] Gaines dislocated a finger. Other than that everybody made it through fairly healthy. Really the game came down to two turnovers and then all of the penalties. So two turnovers, 10 points we have to do better. In those areas I was disappointed in that part of it, the discipline part. However the ones had a positive showing. I thought they came out with some good work and were able to move the ball pretty good. With that time’s yours.”

Talk about Sam [Ficken] being able to come in basically at the last minute and fill in for Cairo [Santos]?  “I thought he did a nice job. That was a positive. He has a very strong leg. We’ve had him before in camp and we liked him, we liked what we saw there. I think it’s just a matter of him having an opportunity like he had today.”

What did you see from the first-team offense and Alex Smith on that first drive?  “I thought the ones were on top of their game.  Custom Womens Patriots Jersey I was very happy with them and we kept them in there just for a bit and then got  custom vikings jersey them out. Actually Alex only played the one series and then he was out. We got the young quarterbacks a  custom womens vikings jersey lot of throws. We didn’t run the ball much and when we did we didn’t run it very well. But we came in where we wanted to throw the ball and give those kids an opportunity. We had all four of them play, all four quarterbacks play, and I thought that was an important thing that we got in today.”

What did you think about [Tyler] Bray and [Patrick] Mahomes and how the two of them faired in their series?  “It was almost equal, it was close. I’ll go back and look at the tape on it and see. They had plays called back, in particular the young kids.”

Anything stand out from either of their performances to you?  “I thought they did some good things. A couple of things we have to work on, but I thought for the most part they did some good things. I thought Tyler had a little bit better protection than maybe what Patrick had, but he had to move around a little bit too.”

What did you think the problem was?  “We just didn’t do a very good job. We didn’t get the push we needed to get. There were a couple times where I thought, and again I have to look at the tape on this, but I wasn’t sure we hit the right holes that were available for us. They got us with a couple blitzes too.”

Would you say stopping the run as well?  “Well down the stretch there we weren’t doing a very good job.”

What was the thought process in getting Derrick [Johnson] in the preseason game? Was it just that he hadn’ Custom Womens Steelers Jersey t played in a while?   “He did get a few reps. He needed them, but he probably got a few more than what I really wanted.”

Mahomes obviously made some nice throws but today off this, is there anything to think of improving  Custom Womens Eagles Jersey to?  “I thought he moved around well. I thought he made some nice reads, some nice throws to start his game off but most of them were called back. But I thought he did a nice job, he had a pretty good event.”

All three quarterbacks go deep the first play, was that designed in anyway?  “It was for four, but the fourth one was playing in a little different coverage.”

Obviously DJ [Derrick Johnson] coming back from injury and Allen Bailey coming back, what did you see from Allen?   “I thought the ones did a nice job and for the most part the two’s. But when we started getting the young kids in there, mixing and matching, we probably weren’t as sound as we need. That’s what you remember. Unfortunately you remember the last little out there when those guys are in. But I don’t want to take away from what the ones and the early two’s did.”

Kareem Hunt seemed like he was doing pretty well there on the special teams, what’s it like to have a running back, back there?   “He had a couple nice tackles. I would have liked to have gotten him going on the offensive side. But he did a nice job there and that’s a plus. And you need your backup running backs to be good special teamers. He really did a nice job with it.”

On Mahomes touchdown throw, was it drawn up that way or was it just being creative?  “They showed blitz man, then they peeled the ends against the primary against man on the back. Then he just moved around and made it happen, that was just him. That wasn’t how it was drawn up.”

I know it’s just the preseason but how close are those guys to getting back like Travis [Kelce], Eric [Berry]?  “They are close. Potentially will get some work out of them this next week, we’ll just see how it goes. They’ve got a big rehab session tomorrow so we’ll see.”

CLOSING STATEMENT: “Before we leave here, Officer Gary Michael just our hearts go out to him and his family. He was killed in the line of duty and we’re very fortunate that we have those guys taking care of us and unfortunately he gave his life away. Thank you.”

Five Things We L customized women’s NFL jersey earned From Andy Reid on Sunday

Coach Reid spoke with the media on Sunday afternoon

1. Reid was impressed custom womens vikings jersey  with rookie running back Kareem Hunt on Saturday night. Hunt rushed for 40 yards on eight carries and caught three passes for 23 yards, spending quite a bit of time with the first team offense.

“It was good to get him in – we wanted to do that going in,” Reid said. “He got some work in with the ones, and I thought the best thing was to see him, and to allow him to see, the speed of the game and the endurance that it takes to play at that level. I thought he handled himself really well. He kind of tweaked his ankle right there at the end, and it ended up being where he wanted to go back in, but he had enough reps, so I was good with where he was at. I just think overall, for him to have the confidence – if he’s going to help us this year – to get in there against that group in Cincinnati and for our players to see him work with that first group – I thought it was important.”

 Custom Womens Steelers Jersey

Reid continued to talk about Hunt and his development as a pass protector.

“I would tell you probably the last seven or eight days here it kind of clicked for him in that area,” Reid said. “I really felt like he was getting the hang of it. EB (Running Backs Coach Eric Bieniemy) would probably agree with that, that he felt pretty comfortable with him in that area. That’s always the hardest thing. Carrying the ball – you have a pretty good idea of what he can do for the most part – but that protection when it’s a bang-bang play and you can’t repeat the play and teach him, it’s for real. That was good to see him execute there.

2. Reid provided an update on safety Eric Berry, who has missed both preseason games with a heel injury.

“(Berry) will probably get a little work in this week, at least in practice,” Reid said. “We’ll just have to see how he feels. We’re being a little conservative with him in that area. I think we know what he can do, but at the same time, I want to make sure that he’s comfortable going into our first game against New England. We’ll see how he feels. He’s a determined guy, so I might have to out the clamps on him a little bit because he’s full throttle when he’s out there.”

Reid also provided an update on defensive tackle Chris Jones, who was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform List last week, and linebacker Tamba Hali, who is dealing with a knee injury.

“We’ll see. We were able to work Chris in a little bit last week in practice, and we’ll increase that,” Reid said. “I think he came out of last week feeling pretty good. Sore, but just from playing, not because of the injury. We’ll just see how he does. With Tamba, we’ll just see how things work out this week.”

Custom Womens Eagles Jersey . Reid discussed how rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes has done in his transition to the NFL so far. Mahomes completed 10 of 14 passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday.

“You’re really not sure (how they’ll develop) until they get here,” Reid said. “You hear about the work ethic and all of that, but it’s just different at this level. I keep referring to the (quarterback) room, and it’s important that they’re in a good room to learn. Then it’s a matter of their effort, and that’s kind of the unknown. I’ve been very pleased with that part of it. He’s a relentless worker. He wants to be the best. All of those intangible things that you kind of heard about but you really didn’t know until you have him here, he’s kind of answered that part and done well. It’s custom vikings jersey  important that he stays on top of it – every day is a new experience for him. He hasn’t been through this before. To have an Alex Smith in the room, I just think for a young guy, you can’t ask for more than that. To see how you handle yourself as a professional and how you go about working and not being afraid to ask questions. Overall, I’ve been very pleased with his work ethic and how he’s gone about i Custom Womens Patriots Jersey t professionally.”

Reid went on to discuss how Mahomes did last night in particular.

“He did OK, there were a couple little hiccups in there, but for the most part I thought he did well,” Reid said. “In particular, he did well getting in and out of the huddle and seeing things there. There were a few hiccups, but nothing major. I think that motor was going pretty fast when he first got in the game. He was excited to be in there with that first group and that early in the game. I think he kind of settled down after that and handled himself pretty well.”

4. Reid also discussed the play of his defense as a whole, which held Cincinnati to under 260 yards and just four field goals on the night, and defensive back Phillip Gaines in particular.

“There’s a couple things that we need to work on, but overall, I thought we did a pretty nice job there. It was great to get (Phillip) Gaines back in there and get him a lot of playing time,” Reid said. “He got a lot of work in against good players and I think that will just add to his confidence down the road here. He came out feeling pretty good and he kept on battling which was beautiful to watch. I appreciated that.”

5. Reid talked about tight end Demetrius Harris, who caught two touchdowns on Saturday, and his development now in his fourth year in the NFL.

“He’s had a good camp. He came in and he’s put on a little bit of weight – he’s been kind of our primary run blocker and second tight end. He added just a little bit of weight – some good weight – and he’s worked a ton on catching the football in tight areas,” Reid said. “I’m looking forward to how he plays this season. He’s come a long way, I mean he was a basketball player in college, but he grew up in a football family. His dad was a professional football player, so he knows the game and understands it, but in terms of actually getting out there and doing it, he’s gotten better every year. It’s a tribute to him.”

Kansas City held the Bengals to just four field goals on Saturday night

On a night where the offense racked up over 400 total yards and 30 points, it might be easy to overlook a stout defensive effort in which the Chiefs surrendered only four field goals on the evening.

“I thought our defense, that first group, was outstanding,” Head Coach Andy Reid said. “They challenged, they had a couple break ups and (the Bengals) were going to come in and try to run the ball too and we were able to kind of secure things up there.”

Kansas City held Cincinnati to just 257 total yards after allowing 434 yards to San Francisco in the preseason opener, and allowed just four third down conve Custom Womens Steelers Jersey rsions in 14 tries. Two of those third-down stops occurred in the red zone, forcing field goals.

The defensive front was particularly effective, with solid performances by defensive tackles Allen Bailey, Rakeem Nunez-Roches and new addition Bennie Logan, who was playing in his first game with Kansas City.

“Bennie Logan played well – I thought the front did well overall,” Reid said. “Bennie just hadn’t played and I was going to get him in there and get him some work. (Bailey) is a force in the run and the pass game and (Nunez-Roches) keeps playing well, which is a plus.”

Logan recorded two tackles in his Chiefs debut, while Nunez-Roches notched a tackle and a passed defensed. Bailey, who injured his shoulder last October and missed the remainder of the season, sacked Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton for a loss of 13 yards in the first quarter.

Reid was also impressed with how the linebackers pe Custom Womens Patriots Jersey rformed throughout the game.

“I thought that the linebackers, both Dee (Ford) and Justin (Houston), were squeezing everything inside and allowing the inside backers to make plays,” Reid said. “I thought they were flying around and did a nice job out there.”

Rookie linebacker Ukeme Eligwe, Kansas City’s fifth-round pick out of Georgia Southern, registered four tackles (1.0 solo), a sack and two tackles-for-loss in the contest.

The secondary was effective as well, yielding just 185 yards through the air while breaking up three passes. Defensive back Eric Murray put an exclamation point on a strong night by picking off Bengals quarterback A.J. McCarron in the third quarter.

Reid mentioned cornerback Phillip Gaines, in particular, as a player he thought made progress on Saturday. Gaines, who dislocated a finger in the preseason opener, recorded four tackles (3.0 solo) in 26 snaps against Cincinnati.

From the line to the secondary, it was a strong night for the defense as a whole.

In that 24-game span, the Chiefs are holding opponents to 16.9 points per game and have allowed 30-plus points just once.

A stout defense generally translates to wins, as the Chiefs are 20-4 in that span, and Saturday’s game was no different.

The Kansas City defense will be back at it on Aug. 25 as the Chiefs travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks. The game will be nationally televised on CBS.
